Description:
Production machining on a 'Herbert' turret lathe, of gear blanks from forgings. The forgings (rough castings) can be seen in the lower right, and part-machined gear blanks on the left. Note the machinist is standing on duckboards (wooden slats), an occupational health and safety initiative to elevate the feet above the concrete floor.
