The Bulk Store was actually one of the smaller buildings on the site. By the 1920s
the factory was considered to be the largest agricultural implement factory in
the southern hemisphere, and it eventually covered 30.4 hectares (76 acres).
Now,
imagine the scale of the rest of the factory. Imagine you are surrounded by sawtooth-roofed
buildings and the hum of the power station.
The power station generated power
for the houses around Sunshine, as well as the factory itself. Just behind the
Bulk Store there used to be a railway line which was one of five arterial rail
lines running through the factory. Close by were the header and drill production
lines, the quality control section, factory offices and the laboratory. |
