Electric telegraph network
Mid- to Late 19th century
The electric telegraph network was the first system in which messages were sent over any distance by electrical means. Manufactured in the UK, this single-needle instrument was one of the first telegraph devices developed.
In March 1854, the first public telegraph message in the Southern Hemisphere was transmitted in Melbourne.
