In 1953 Alfred Mervyn Smith and his wife migrated to Australia. Alfred had made working models all his life. He especially loved old English carousels and constructed this model of a carousel with great attention to detail.	Alfred Smith scavenged whatever materials he could find around the house for his model, including old coffee tins, pictures from magazines, icy-pole sticks, pieces from board games—even his wife’s jewellery.
