Antarctic sledge

1907

Ernest Shackleton’s fame as an Antarctic explorer stems from the 1914–17 Transcontinental Expedition. This sledge was used on his earlier, equally important expedition in 1907–09.Explore this Object
Shackleton was sceptical of the endurance of dogs in Antarctica. He relied mainly on ponies to pull the expedition’s sledges.
