Wasp Control - Ground Nests

The simplest way to destroy a European wasp nest in the ground is to apply Premethrin, Propoxur or Carbaryl dust.

Read the label of any pesticide used.

Treat the nest at night. Wear full protective clothing. Place red cellophane over your torch. Locate the nest entrance and sprinkle the dust in and around the entrance. Usually two applications, several days apart, are sufficient to destroy the nest.

Do not treat the nest if is it likely to rain during the next 24 hours.

Another, though less effective, technique for treating underground nests is to pour several litres of kerosene or distillate down the entrance hole.

Do not light the liquid!

The fumes kill the wasps, so lighting the liquid will simply eliminate the fumes. This treatment is not effective if the nest entrance tunnel slopes up to the nest. You should not use this treatment in landscaped areas as the liquid chemicals may cause damage to your plants.
