The Water Smart Home is a community based project that aims to engage, educate and inspire the public in how to reduce, reuse and revalue water in their daily lives. The project consists of three major elements: a water-activated exhibit, website and a series of public programs. The project aims to showcase inspiring contemporary examples of how individuals and communities across metropolitan Melbourne are saving water in homes and gardens.
The Water Smart Home was funded by the Smart Water Fund from 2003-2007. The Victorian Smart Water Fund is a joint initiative between the Victorian Government (Department of Sustainability and Environment) and the four metropolitan water businesses (City West Water, Yarra Valley Water, South East Water and Melbourne Water) to generate and implement ideas on saving or recycling water.
