Broderick Street, Vivienne Fraser and their son, Alexander, live in their renovated home in Hawthorn. Both Broderick and Vivienne work in environmental fields, so incorporating water-saving and ecologically viable features into their renovation was an important goal. Sustainable features designed into their home include: photovoltaic (solar electric) modules, which generate 1,800 kilowatts of electricity per year; rainwater catchment tanks; greywater treatment and recycling; double-glazed windows for insulation; and a solar hot water system. Recycled and plantation timbers were used in the renovation. | |
