Developed over nearly 160 years, Victoria's state collection includes over one million objects and images that comprise a unique representation of our history, and one of the most significant collections of Australian Indigenous cultural material in the world.

The museum's Humanities department works to preserve, develop, exhibit and interpret these collections, thereby seeking to inform and enrich the lives of current and future generations of Victorians and other communities.
