Booking in your school or tertiary group guarantees your access to our education programs, exhibitions and other activities.
Bookings open on 1 December each year.
Teachers and supervisors are admitted free at recommended ratios of 1:3 for preschool groups, 1:5 for primary groups, 1:10 for secondary groups, and 1:20 for tertiary groups.
Pre-booked education groups and their supervisors don't need to pay admission to Melbourne Museum.*
We do charge an education service fee:
Shows and programs led by museum staff have an additional fee per student. You'll find this fee on the individual program listings.
*Special conditions apply in the First Peoples exhibition. Due to the specialised nature of this exhibition there is no general viewing. All school groups are either guided through the exhibition by museum staff or given a short introduction by museum staff and receive a specific year level booklet. An additional fee per student applies.
If the total cost for your group is only the education service fee, please pay on the day of your visit by cheque, cash or credit card. Where bookings include additional program fees, we'll issue a tax invoice to you for the total amount when you arrive.
On school days, IMAX screens films for school students on the hour between 10.00 am and 3.00 pm. Visit IMAX Education for education bookings info.
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your booked time at the Schools Entry (west of the main entrance). We'll have staff ready to help you organise your group and process payment. Coaches and minibuses can offload students at the designated zone on Rathdowne Street, near the museum banners.
Please leave school bags at home. We provide large tubs and trolleys to store lunches and drinks until lunchtime. Melbourne Museum has lunch spots suitable for all weather, and a cafe if you'd like to buy lunch or snacks.
Melbourne Museum provides social scripts for students on the autism spectrum to help them prepare for their visit. A colour-coded printout of a sensory friendly map of Melbourne Museum (PDF, 715 KB) may also be useful.
